Yachts go back to their element

The cruiser racing season is almost here as the boats emerge from winter hibernation

Yachts go back to their element
sailing cruisers

Last week it was the dinghy sailors who took to the water. This week it was the turn of the cruisers as some of the bigger boats, that had been hauled out for the winter, were returned to the water.

The 32 foot Mystic Sky was first to be craned back into the waters of Rock Channel, followed by the 38 foot Helena Ann.

Our pictures below show the operation on Helena Anne with many tons of boat suspended by two thin straps as she was lifted back in.

The operation only took a few minutes, with help from the yard hands and the expertise of the crane driver.

But it is always a nervous moment when an irreplaceable boat like a yacht is gently swaying 15 feet above the ground and so far out of her element.

The crane takes the strain
Just don't drop it
Swinging out over the water
Operation complete. Safely back on her berth
