Rye News recently published a letter from local resident and Rye News contributor, Derek Bayntun (When the bough breaks) regarding the potentially dangerous branches hanging from trees over a footpath used by school children, following a recent storm.
There were various helpful responses and Derek has contacted me today to confirm that this morning, December 14:
"An open lorry and cutting machinery and chipping machinery have been parked by the playground since earlier in the morning.
"At least three men (maybe four) involved in a thorough job of taking out
several large branches (including dragging up a couple already lodged on
the river bank).
"Lots of chippings showering out of the chipping machine and collected in
the lorry.
"There is no sign of them now - ALL DONE (very efficient operation).
"Thank you Nick for your article - one reader had identified the
organisation responsible for those trees and made contact with them
about it too. Regards, Derek Bayntun. "
Thanks to everyone for responding, particularly Cllr Andrew Mier for making things happen. Another example of our community working as one, brought together with the reach of Rye News.
