A hundred or so members of the local community gathered in Castle Street on Sunday, September 11 to hear the mayor of Winchelsea, Jurat David Merrifield JP make the accession proclamation.

The mayors of the Cinque Ports had been in Dover earlier in the day to hear the proclamation made by the deputy constable of Dover Castle on behalf of the lord warden, returning to their own towns to repeat the reading in the afternoon.

Deputy lieutenant of East Sussex, Sarah Kowitz DL, introduced the Winchelsea ceremony.
