A given is understanding the technical side of your camera but most of all you will need:
- a keen eye for detail: this is essential: noticing subtle lighting shifts, textures, patterns, and small elements others might miss
- strong composition skills: creating balance and visual flow that draws the viewer’s eye naturally
- mastering patience and timing, waiting for the perfect moment: be it the golden hour glow, a bird in mid-flight, or a fleeting expression
- to be a master of storytelling: making each photograph convey an emotion and sense of place, capturing not just what a scene looks like, but what it feels like
- a huge dose of creativity and curiosity: the willingness to experiment with unusual angles, perspectives, and concepts
- the ability to learn from mistakes, seeking feedback, and staying open to new techniques
Charlie Gould has been out and about with his camera capturing the fun, essence and colour of pirate day in Rye for Rye News. He is a young photographer with talent and we are thrilled to have him on board. Each time he works on an event with me you can see the concentration, the thought-patterns and the improvement he is making. His photos speak for themselves. I am looking forward to working with him again soon. He is one to watch and encourage.
