Arriving at Rye Wharf on the high tide at approx 8pm last Friday, May 7, the vessel "Lianne" of St John’s is a general cargo ship built in 2007 and currently sailing under the flag of Antigua & Barbuda. It is owned by Royal Wagenborg of the Netherlands, and is 1,903 tons gross, length 80m - inbound to Rye from Rotterdam with orders to load a cargo of grain destined for manufacturing scotch whisky.

Editor's note: A reminder that in medieval times Rye was once England's fourth largest port in terms of trade because it was then the shortest, quickest and most direct route between London and France until the rivers and the harbour silted up.
