Under new management

With thanks to the old management

Under new management
Rye Heritage Centre welcomes visitors.

Rye Heritage Centre is delighted to announce the appointment of a new manager for the charity-run organisation. Simon Parsons has been appointed and starts work this week.

Simon, formerly a trustee of the charity, has a wealth of experience of the centre having been at the forefront of the organisation’s transformation and refurbishment since its inception. His knowledge and contacts from volunteering with other similar local charities will be invaluable as the centre looks towards reopening.

Since its change of governance from Rye Town Council to a charitable incorporated organisation, Rye Heritage Centre has had a few ups and downs. On the plus side, the interior has been extensively updated including a brand-new reception area, revised exhibits and an innovative Victorian pier experience complete with the best of the penny arcade machines that have historically been a key feature of the centre.

Nevertheless, the difficulties associated with the pandemic have meant that, to date, the centre has been unable to open since its change of status.

July opening planned

The good news is that, government restrictions and demand permitting, it is hoped to open the centre this coming July. Yet, there is much work for Simon and the trustees to do before then, including the installation of further attractions and the organising and training of the volunteers that have kindly put their names forward to help.

It goes without saying, though, that more volunteers are always needed so if you’d like to help out, please contact the centre at: heritagecentrerye@gmail.com.

The trustees would like to thank the outgoing manager, Nick Forman for his patience and dedication during the extended lock-down period. Without his hard work and enthusiasm, the centre wouldn’t be looking forward to an early opening.

Watch this space for news of the opening of the centre and for details of some special events that the new manager has planned.

Chris Hoggart is a trustee of Rye Heritage Centre CIC
