Town top for introverts

Rye makes another list of must-visit places

Town top for introverts
Mermaid Street, possibly the most famous street in the UK

Rye has come out on top. Again. There can’t be many other places in Britain that regularly feature in lists of great places to visit. This time a survey puts Rye as the best town in the country for tourists who describe themselves as introverts, with just three other places, all cities, beating our town.

As usual it’s a publicity stunt for an organisation that’s paid for some research, but this time it’s a bit different. UK Therapy Rooms conducted a survey to find out which locations are best for “those who favour introspection.” Places were marked up for landmarks, parks, spas, and wellness venues - and marked down for tourist numbers and Instagram posts. Somehow that means Rye gets a score of 60.26 – the best place for a quiet weekend away was Hereford with 69.18.

According to the researchers, Rye makes the list because of the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve which they describe as “a great place for bird watching and miles of footpaths.” The report also highlights the local walks and beaches. Presumably not Camber Sands on a hot sunny weekend…

The full top ten:

  1. Hereford
  2. Durham
  3. Bath
  4. Rye
  5. Dundee
  6. Norwich
  7. Leicester
  8. Stirling
  9. Liverpool
  10. Swansea
