Tournament on the Salts

The return of Rye Bowls Club fixture gets a lot of interest on the green

Tournament on the Salts
Rye Bowls Club tournament 2025

The return of the Rye annual bowls tournament was a great success. The 16 visiting teams, from across our region, contested the shield throughout the day on Saturday, July 26.

The green was nicely set off by the marquees, erected facing the play and providing cover for the visiting teams. This spectacle always attracts the attention of visitors, and this was no exception.

Well done to Staplecross Bowls Club, who took first place and to Alan Green, Beverley Green and Peter Jones, their players.

Also congratulations to Mix and Match, who came second and to Ditton Bowls Club who came in third place.

The tournament was sponsored by the Mermaid Inn, for which we are extremely grateful. Judith Blincow, our club president, presented the tournament prizes, accompanied by Andy Stuart, Rye’s mayor.

Also a big thank you to everyone who attended: the competing bowls clubs; Ray Palmer (who organised the tournament); the spectators; and all of our fabulous members, who played host and served everyone a delicious lunch. An amazing day and another massive step forward for the rejuvenated club!
