Thieves left empty handed

Another Rye premises is targeted by petty criminals, this time without success

A break-in was effected at the Tuscan restaurant in Lion Street over Thursday night November 22/23. Entry was gained by forcing a front side window, whilst the building was unoccupied.

Police attended the scene next morning and contacted the owners by phone in Italy, where they were visiting for a family event. It had been arranged to send in a police forensic team on Wednesday 28, but following consultation with the owners upon their return, it was agreed that this would serve little purpose at that stage and the visit was accordingly cancelled.

A police spokesman said “anyone with information or any witnesses should contact police online or ring 101 quoting serial 368 of 23/11."

The owners returned to Rye last Sunday and were relieved to find that nothing had been stolen and only minor damage caused. Owner, Jennifer Vintner said later: “the thieves must have been really disappointed not to find anything worth stealing. A friend kindly supervised making the premises secure again but we could just do without the inconvenience of it all.”
