This winter, Rye Cricket Club has been working harder than usual in preparation for the forthcoming season. In the last week the pavilion was redecorated over 8 days by local painter Graham Sargent who has done an excellent job. Whilst Graham Sargent was working on the inside, local builder Mick Lansley was building 2 new steps into the pavilion, with improved accessibility, and most importantly constructing a new disabled ramp.
This work has been supported from club funds but also the internal work is thanks to a grant from the England and Wales Cricket Board to support the return of cricket after Covid. The external accessibility work was supported by a grant from the Rother Community Fund and a legacy from life long club member and supporter, Richard Merricks.
As British summer time returns so does cricket on the Salts. Adult outdoor nets commence on Wednesdays from 6pm; all players are welcome to use the two mobile nets.
Junior cricket returns with hardball nets on Tuesday May 3 from 6-8pm. Softball sessions return on Friday 13 May. All Stars Cricket for 7-9 Year olds is at 6-7pm and 7-8pm is Cricket Dynamos for 9-13 year olds. The club is holding a signing on night for juniors on Friday 6 May 6-7.30pm at the Salts. There will be a free taster session of softball cricket for boys and girls to see if they would like to sign up for 8 weeks of fun. Parents and carers can enjoy the newly refurbished pavilion, and the social atmosphere of an evening on the Salts.
