Queen Elizabeth II was crystal clear on what she wanted to mark her 70th year on the throne – "Plant a Tree for the Jubilee."
The Queen’s Green Canopy has been created to celebrate this historic occasion by inviting people from across the UK to plant a tree. Throughout her remarkable reign, the Queen has planted more than 1,500 trees all over the world.
Accordingly, student ambassadors from Rye College and the Rye Community Primary School enjoyed planting a special tree in honour of Her Majesty's long and distinguished reign.
Executive head of Rye College and Community Primary School, Barry Blakelock, said: "It’s great to see our children and young people marking this momentous occasion. Not only does it provide an opportunity to connect to an historic moment in time but also enhance our environment in the name of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. We will be adding more trees to our schools as part of this initiative in the autumn during official tree planting season."
Both schools have platinum jubilee events planned for their students before they break up for half term including the ceremonial raising of the jubilee flag.
Rye Community Primary School will be enjoying a "street party" style lunchtime with jubilee fun and games along with a non-uniform day where students are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue or "royal style" fancy dress!
Rye College will be hosting a platinum jubilee bake off competition cake sale and will also be running a non-uniform day, encouraging students to come dressed in one of the seven decades of style that the Queen has reigned through.
