St Mary's summer fete

Sun shines on the crowds

St Mary's summer fete
Rye St Mary's Church fete

The sun shone warmly on Saturday, August 20 and the tourists and locals came to the fete, some from as far afield as Australia and South Africa. It was a typical English summer fete with delicious refreshments and mouth-watering cakes , books and bric-a-brac and a popular bottle stall. So popular, that the bottles ran out in just over an hour. It is the competitive nature of needing to get a ticket with a 0 or a 5 that lured people back many times in order to win. The raffle was popular and the rector, Rev Paul White had the task of raffling off a bottle of very pleasing malt whiskey. The monies raised are for the church funds, the Mothers’ Union and family support work. The final amount raised was just over £1,000.

Chris Emson thanked everyone who gave time on the day, donated raffle prizes, baked cakes and to those who supported on the day. It takes a team of volunteers to make these days a success.
