United's future is still uncertain following the club's decision to withdraw from the Sussex County Football League. That decision was made at an extraordinary general meeting convened in March, following a members vote. So this year's AGM is a crucial one.
United was formed in 1938 as an amalgamation of Rye FC and Rye old Boys Club. The club played in the East Sussex League, topping the league in 1950, and was a founder member of the Sussex County Football League Two formed in 1952. In 1983 the club moved to the Kent County League but returned to Sussex in 2000. As well as having been Division Two champions and finishing runners up on four occasions, the club has also won the Division Two Challenge Cup and the John O'Hara League Challenge Cup.
Fans and members will be hoping that there will be some positive news for the future and that the Quarterboys will be able to add more cups to their trophy cupboard. The AGM will start at 8pm, Thursday June 26 at the Salts clubhouse and Rye News will be report on the outcome in due course.
