Last Sunday Rye Cricket Club held its Annual General Meeting ... a time to reflect on the past season and look forward to the 2024 Season.

The Chairman reported:
“The summer of 2023 will be remembered as a damp one, more cricket was lost to the weather than has been in recent seasons.

"The first team finished mid table in fifth position in Division 3 East, with eight wins and losing three games to the weather.

"The second team finishing fifth, winning eight games and the third team third winning half of their games and not conceding any games. This is a real positive for the club.

"The cricket week was a wash out apart from the MCC fixture, this was an excellent game of cricket.

"The success of the colts continues, this is down to the club attending the local primary schools introducing the children to cricket. This then feeds into the winter indoor coaching sessions and then the evenings during the summer on the Salts. A big thank you to Martin, the coaches and the team managers for organising and preparing their teams for the Ashford Cricket League.

"The committee has been busy throughout the year. Apart from preparing the club for the 2024 season, the main topic is now how the club plans for taking on the licence of the wicket from November 2024. Looking further ahead, talks are being held with Rother District Council regarding the lease of the Salts.

"During the winter of 2022/23 there was a huge effort to increase sponsorship for the club from local business which was a great success. This has continued this winter, again with further success. Thank you to all that have been involved.

"The condition of the wicket continues to improve as the club becomes further involved with its maintenance. Last autumn, the club controlled the end of season works and half the square had the “dip” at each end filled. The condition of the outfields at the Salts and at Icklesham have never been so good, this is down to our President – thank you Philip.”

The Club is looking forward to the 2024 Season:

Work is ongoing to promote the recruitment of players and to offer sponsorship opportunities, those include Scoreboard Sponsor / Advertising Boards / Match Ball Sponsorship.
