Rye 2nds get back on track

Rye second team revivied their season with an impressive batting display against Glynde followed by some efficient fielding

Rye 2nds have recently started to put their season back on track and last Saturday away to Glynde IIs continued the recent good form. Skipper Martin Blincow won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Ed Jury (56) and Neale Hopper (128)  saw off the new ball and then took full advantage of the good wicket as they added 98 for the first wicket. Hopper then maintained the momentum as Rye went along at 5 runs an over before falling for a brilliant 128 off 144 balls (17 x 4s and 4 x 6s)with the score on 256. Rye declared on 262-6 after 47 overs with the third highest scorer of Extras of 33.

It was a bold declaration leaving Glynde 53 overs to reach the target. Glynde went off strongly as Chris Baker hit 43 off just 34 balls. Jack Dudley took an early wicket but it was the introduction of the spin of Mike Stoneham and the swing of Nick Paine that put a brake on the Glynde innings. Glynde were 92-4 when Bailey (53) and Branford (43)  put together a strong partnership, but they both fell to good catches by Spencer Fielding off Paine, leaving the side 192-6. Glynde then settled for survival and ended 237-7 off 53 overs.

It was a good game played in the right spirit and saw Tim Brownbill make an impressive return behind the stumps with good glove work and a stumping.
