Rother District Council has announced the appointment of a new chief executive.

Lorna Ford joined the council in January 2022 as deputy chief executive, before stepping up to interim chief executive following the retirement of Malcolm Johnston in May this year.

Council leader, Cllr Doug Oliver said: “I am delighted that Lorna has accepted the position. She has extensive experience in various senior roles within local government, including nearly two years as deputy chief executive, and has the insight to bring forward the aspirations of the council following the uncertainty of the last four years. Lorna has the full support of members and staff.”

Before joining Rother District Council, Lorna worked at Ashford Borough Council for four years and 17 years at Canterbury City Council in policy, communication, transformation, and economic development roles.

Commenting on her new role, Lorna said: “I am delighted to be appointed as the permanent chief executive of Rother District Council. It is an absolute honour, and I am excited about working with councillors, staff, and partners in delivering Rother’s ambitious plans for the future to improve the lives of local people and strengthen the local economy.”
