The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.
Mayor of Rye, Andi Rivett commented: "We join the nation in sending our condolences and our thoughts and prayers to members of the Royal Family. We remember the Queen fondly for her lifetime of service to our country and the Commonwealth."

Sally-Ann Hart, MP for Hastings and Rye released a statement that read; "I know that residents of Hastings and Rye are, at this moment in time, suffering intense sadness and grief at the death of our beloved sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
"Her Majesty has carried the burden of her birth with such love and devotion to her subjects – a life of public service – for nearly a century.
"I know that I speak on behalf of the people of Hastings and Rye when I express my deepest sorrow at Her Majesty’s passing and extend my prayers for and condolences to the entire Royal Family.
"God Save the Queen – may she rest in perpetual light and eternal happiness."
