Power cuts, anti social behaviour, repairs to Traders Passage and a busy bank holiday weekend.
Power cuts
The reasons behind last week's power cuts in Rye and Winchelsea have been revealed. 1862 properties were without power for several hours from 6.15am on Tuesday August 13. A spokesperson for UK Power Networks apologized for the break in service. "A fault on a section of cable connected to one of our poles near to the Station Road in Winchelsea caused safety devices to operate. This section of cabling is where the overhead and underground network meet in what's known as a pole termination."
Work to repair the fault should be completed by Friday August 23.
On the roof
Sussex Police were called to Rye College after reports of youngsters in the school grounds causing criminal damage during the holidays. Officers attended the scene at 4.40pm on Sunday August 4 after hearing details of young people riding bikes and scooters on school grounds, climbing on roofs, and causing damage.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: "The school's security cameras were operational and captured footage of the incidents. As a result, those involved will be identified and spoken to."
Work on Traders Passage
Work on Traders Passage in Rye next week will see the concrete platform repaired. East Sussex Highways says the work will take place between 8am and 5pm from Tuesday August 27 until Saturday August 31.
Repairs are being made on the edge of the concrete platform to stabilise the parapet posts. The team will also be replacing bolts and using resin to secure them in place. The Highways team will also be working near the garages opposite The Ship Inn.
There will be minimal disruption to road users whilst these works are carried out.
Pett Level roadworks
There's also work on Pett Level Road next week. Repairs to stop the road flooding will take place between Tuesday August 27 and Friday August 30. Temporary lights will be in operation.
Resurfacing work to repair the road's potholes is now scheduled for early October.
