Museum Summer Party

Fine weather saw members able to spend the evening in the garden of the Ypres Tower

Rye Castle Museum held a Summer Party for members on Friday, August 4. The weather was set fair so tables and a few chairs were taken to the Ypres Tower top garden and a cheese and wine party was set up for what proved a very convivial evening.  Almost 40 members attended and for a small charge enjoyed a selection of nibbles and cheeses and a glass of wine (or two). There was a raffle with a few very select prizes - a small hamper, restaurant voucher, bottle of wine and a beauty box. The evening raised much needed extra funds for the museum. Thank you to the museum ‘ Muses ladies’ for setting this up, catering and clearing up.

The museum has a full social calendar and events programme and new members are always welcome, as are volunteers. The next event will be a children’s afternoon at the end of the school holidays on Friday, September 1, a dressing up afternoon. This will be followed by a coffee morning at East Street museum to launch the display of pottery ‘Medieval to Modern’ on Saturday, September 16. A grand fundraising evening  will be held in October – we are completely self-funding, and depend on visitors and events to cover our costs -- and of course the new talks programme will also re-commence in October.

If you are not a member and would like to know more, take a look at the museum website www.ryemuseum.co.uk, call in at East Street Museum during Saturday/Sunday opening times or visit the Ypres Tower which is open every day. We are a friendly, happy group and as has been proven by doctors, volunteering helps sharpen your mind – keeping you actively engaged. We look forward to seeing you at the museum be it as a visitor or volunteer – Keep History Alive.
