Gaily dressed Morris Men performed their traditional dances last weekend to the delight of scores of onlookers and Rye News caught up with them in the Gun Garden by the Ypres Tower, having just missed them in St Mary’s church. I admired their display of energy as they leapt and twirled with sticks and swords to the music of an accordion and the jingle of bells marking their 60th annual tour of Kent and Sussex. The East Surrey Morris Men have given 17 performances in 10 different towns and villages, and make a delightful sight in a gruelling schedule.
