Icklesham Casuals' teams produced a mixed bag of results last weekend and while the 2nd team pulled off their first win of the season there was no good news for the 1st eleven and the veterans as they both lost. David Mayne reports
Icklesham Casuals' 2nd team recorded their first victory of the season on Saturday with a 3-1 defeat of Hampden Park United at Eastbourne Sports Park to move off the bottom of the table. Icklesham played some very good football on a difficult pitch. Paul Daniels buried two shots from outside the box and Joe Fraser finished off a four-man move late on to secure the points. Joe also hit both posts and numerous other chances were created. Player-manager Adam Murphy came off the bench to help see the side home and the game also saw the début of young Callum Martin.
The 1st team bowed out of the Wisdens Sports Challenge Cup in the second round, losing 4-1 at home to Wadhurst United. United were two up at the break and added two further goals in the second period with Sean Baker netting a late consolation from the penalty spot for Icklesham.
A weakened veterans side went down 3-0 at home to Little Common in the Hastings Veterans League on Sunday morning bringing to an end their winning start to the season.
