So how did the Sun’s Great British Bake Off (GBBO) themed meet the readers event go at Camber Sands earlier this month? Fortunately Private Eye has given us an update.

According to the fortnightly satirical magazine, GBBO star Mary Berry didn’t turn up in the end as anticipated. Instead her place was taken by ‘80s breakfast time TV chef Rustie Lee, who hosted a bingo session. Various activities took place in the pouring rain at the Holiday Park including an attempt at the Crystal Maze game. See the Sun’s associate editor Dan Wootton’s picture here.

But according to Private Eye, the weekend did not end happily. Apparently 20 Sun staff phoned in sick on Monday with food poisoning. It is not known however whether or not the journalists poisoned themselves with their Bake Off attempts.
