Commuters suffered yet more frustrating delays on the Marshlink last week, writes Richard Comotto. Problems came to a head on Thursday when every other service between Ashford and Rye was cancelled throughout the afternoon and evening, more than doubling the journey time for passengers arriving at the wrong time. The excuse offered was a train fault. Then, on Friday, the peak 18:00 service from Ashford to Rye was cancelled, because a member of staff was "unavailable". While twice as many passengers as normal crammed into the next train, Southern Rail’s website reported a “good service”, “no incidents” and “no service alterations”. Southern was recently voted the third worst rail company in the UK.
