We asked Sarah Givertz of Acting Up in Rye for a preview of Mamma Mia, the sing-a-long evening to the hit musical based on songs by Abba
OK, where do I start? It's not a show in the normal sense i.e. there are no actors performing on the stage and therefore there is no dress rehearsal.
The original Mamma Mia film is screened (with the help of Rye Film Club) with sub titles to all the songs, and the audience are encouraged to join in. To help them do this, everyone is given a goodie bag on arrival which includes party poppers and items which need to be waved in the air to accompany certain songs. Fancy dress is encouraged but not essential.
The performance is at the Rye Community Centre on Conduit Hill on Saturday February 18. The doors and bar open at 6pm, and a supper of moussaka will be served at 6.30pm. Apple crumble will be served during the interval. Tickets are £12 with supper from Rye Grammar School Records or A Pocket Full of Rye, both in the High Street.
Dig out your 1970s gear and dress for a Greek holiday. Prizes for the best dressed Dancing Queens and Kings! I know it sounds a little mad but it really is a very entertaining evening with a lot of laughter.
