The longest trading shop keeper in Rye, John Bragge, has sadly passed away. His shop, Landgate House, on the corner of Landgate and Tower Street could be one of the original antique shops in Rye, having been there over fifty years.
The shop was almost invisible as it had no name on the front, so it looks like a house. John always took an interest in the Landgate arch, which was opposite his shop.
For many years he campaigned to get action taken over the state of it and the damage caused to it by lorries. In recent years he was very often seen sitting on a stool painting outside the shop.
