Lions clubs in the local district are pledging money to help children orphaned by the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. An initial payment of $150,000 has already been sent by Lions Clubs International to assist in the affected area. In addition, the 87 clubs in East and West Sussex, Kent, Surrey and Greater London south of the Thames have sent £1,500, while the clubs in the British Isles have committed to an initial payment of £15,000. All the clubs are being asked to help financially.
To ensure that funds reach the children, the money will be handled via Lions Clubs International Foundation. Lions Clubs International has 167 clubs and 8,000 members in the affected areas.
More than 5,000 lives have been taken by the Ebola outbreak and an estimated 4,000 children have been orphaned. With health education needed and concerns about food shortages growing, the young and vulnerable need our help more than ever.
