A man died in a tragic accident at Broomhill Sands, Camber Beach last weekend as he was apparently attempting to launch his kite near to the sea wall. Emergency services arrived on the scene shortly after 10am on Saturday July 20, but the 47-year-old man was confirmed dead. He was not from the local area.

Sussex Police said that the man had been kite-surfing earlier but apparently he had not been on the water when the incident occurred. There was a south-westerly breeze blowing but weather conditions were not abnormal at the time.

There are signs on the approach to the beach warning kite-surfers not to launch near the rocks or the groynes.
