An employee at Jempson’s Superstore in Peasmarsh was flown by air ambulance to hospital on Wednesday after he was stabbed four times, police say, in the back office of the store’s garage.
The employee, who has not been named, was given emergency treatment at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. He has since been discharged. Police said he had small puncture wounds. A knife was found on the garage forecourt.
DC Ian Dearling said police wanted to talk to two witnesses: a woman and a man from a silver car that was at pump 4 of the garage at the time of the incident. The woman approached staff and helped in giving first aid to the victim. The man was inside the silver car.
In a statement to Rye News on Friday, East Sussex Police said: “James Waller, 24, unemployed, of The Maltings, Peasmarsh, is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates Court charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a 51-year old man at the Jet garage.”
Waller was also due to face charges of causing criminal damage to a car on the forecourt of the garage, with assaulting a police officer - all on Wednesday April 15 - and with causing actual bodily harm to a 16-year-old boy in a separate incident in Peasmarsh on April 12. “The boy sustained a cut to his head after allegedly being punched,” said the statement.
