This little tale is a visual aide-memoire to the county's Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne. The people of Rye and those who visit our beautiful town will have seen it all before - and that's the point
There is a simple point to this story: to show that Rye needs a solution. I am talking to Katy Bourne, the county's Police and Crime Commissioner, in the next few days. This is a visual aide-memoire. To the commissioner. The people of Rye and those who visit will have seen this before. It was Tuesday morning [December 9]. A lorry is unloading at the pinch point of High Street with East Street, just before Adams - where the road kinks and narrows. I walked along the length of the tailback, taking photos as I went and counting the vehicles. The queue stretched all the way to the junction of Station Approach with Cinque Ports Street. Cars in Rope Walk were caught up in it. The jam took little time to build. Trapped within it were 71 vehicles. What then, if there were an emergency? That's why we need an answer.
