It is well known and widely reported that the Covid pandemic has put other NHS services under considerable pressure, with increases in waiting times and many procedures and operations being postponed or cancelled.
In two areas, cardiology and ophthalmology however, the East Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group (ESCCG) has come up with proposals to improve current services in each discipline.
The ESCCG has said that the objectives are to achieve the following:
- improve quality of care
- cut waiting times and reduce time in hospital
- reduce the number of visits needed for appointments or tests
- support staff to develop skills and experience
- provide a more efficient use of local health service resources
- enable local people to benefit from medical and technological advances

There is a 14 week consultation period on the proposals which began on December 6 2021 running through to March 11 2022, and as part of this the ESCCG is holding a virtual public meeting via Zoom on Monday, January 17 between 12:30pm and 2:30pm. Members of the public are invited to attend and the link to book your ticket is here.
