Iden villagers enjoyed an evening of nostalgia last Friday when we were treated to a feast of old photos, films, scrapbooks and documents. Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a minute's silence was held at the beginning of the evening, we then raised our glasses to toast King Charles III.
The evening had been arranged by Carol Bourne and the Iden Village Hall committee, who had gathered old maps, catalogues, photos and documents which were beautifully displayed.
We sat down to a presentation of old slides and films which prompted many remarks as old friends and village residents were spotted by the audience. There were also discussions about which house was which, the Jubilee celebrations of 1977 seemed like a very long time ago!
The Village Hall was open again on Saturday when we were able to take a closer and more leisurely look at the exhibits which included a fascinating map of the village naming every field, embroidered by Jane Coleman in 1967/8.
Our village detectorist, Chris Turk, was there with a case of objects that he has found around the village including an Elizabeth I coin, buckles, buttons and other treasures.
Everyone agreed that it had been a lovely event and it was good to be together as a community at this time of national mourning for our late Queen.
