I woke up to a beautiful sunny day on August 6 and a message from my friend Tony Smith asking me to join him and friends for a sail. When the tide came up we made the boat ready and stocked up with sandwiches, wine and beer.
The sails of the "Caracymba", a 33ft ketch-rigged (two masts) Westerly Pentland yacht were unfurled near the entry of the sea and as it was a bit choppy one had to be steady on one's feet to achieve this as getting around the rolling boat was difficult.
I absolutely love the exhilarating feeling of standing at the wheel with the wind on one's face and the boat gliding through the water though we did get a bit wet with sudden rising waves. There was a race going on which was fun to watch. We had our lunch in quiet and very beautiful surroundings, the open sea with the sun reflecting in the water.
When back, I made a quick change and then went up to the Oak at Rye Foreign where "'Bobfest"was taking place in the garden - musicians singing, mostly Bob Dylan songs.
It seemed a successful event as there were quite a lot of people drinking and tasting the burgers from the BBQ, enjoying the atmosphere.
I couldn't stay long but just want to mention Steve Riv, pictured, who is absolutely wonderful, singing all kinds of music, playing the guitar and mouth organ. He quite often plays in various pubs in Rye.
