Grain cleaner needs home

Some wonderful Victorian engineering

Grain cleaner needs home
The grain cleaner being removed

The Victorian grain cleaner from the Granary building on the corner of Cyprus Place / Ferry Road requires a new home.

The machine, installed around 1860, was on the top floor of the building unaffected by the clubs located on the ground and first floors, and it was in use up to the 1960s when the granary ceased working.

When work was started on conversion of the building to apartments, the builder was unable to find a new location for the machine and it was removed to a temporary site in February this year, since when various museums have been approached - but with no success to date.

If you know of a suitable home for this wonderful piece of Victorian engineering and a part of Rye heritage please email mstott@btinternet.com.
