Good win for Casuals

Icklesham Casuals ended a run of five successive defeats last Saturday with a 4-2 victory away to Herstmonceux II to reach the semi-final of the East Sussex League Divisions Four and Five Challenge Cup.After several poor performances the Casuals were determined to put in an improved performance and got off to the perfect start when Adam Sully netted in the opening two minutes. The lead didn’t last long with Herstmonceux equalising from a free-kick.

Icklesham did not let the set back affect them and went back on the attack with a goal from Lee Pierce and a second of the match from Sully putting them 3-1 up at the break. Herstmonceux pulled a goal back in the second half and with both sides knowing the importance of the next goal it was a Phil Badrock strike that sealed a 4-2 win and a semi-final tie at home to Hooe Sports on the February 29. Man of the match, sponsored by Freedom Leisure, Helenswood, was Stuart Pearson.

Weather permitting the Casuals have a home league match this Saturday against unbeaten league leaders AFC Hollington while on Sunday the veterans take on West Hill United Veterans in the Hastings F A Veterans League. Both games kick-off at 2pm
