The annual Good Friday Walk, organised by Churches Together and Richard Orchard, took place on April 19. It started at midday at St Mary’s church, made its way down Lion Street into the High Street, down to Strand Quay and finally ended outside the train station.
The good weather brought out a lot of people, both on the streets and taking part. The readings this year were from St Luke and, as usual, professional actor and local resident Martin Wimbush read the part of the evangelist, the narrator, with others taking the parts of Jesus, Pilate and bystanders.
Martin says: "It’s a great privilege to take part in this ceremony. I’ve been doing it for over 11 years now and I always feel truly moved reading the story of The Passion. I was greatly struck by the reverence and stillness given by the people who took part in the walk and also by the people on the streets, who came out to stand quietly, as we walked by, with the solemn sound of the bass drum and the cross ahead of us."
