Fundraiser fixes pigeon poo

Fifty years of guano removed as Pett Church re-opens

Fundraiser fixes pigeon poo
Pett Church receive anamazing cheque

Last month Robin Lyons, landlord of The Royal Oak pub in Pett, and Kevin, quiz-master extraordinaire, presented Heather Godwin, the treasurer of Pett Parish Churches, with a magnificent cheque for £2,573.80 - the proceeds of the fortnightly quiz nights held from last September to July.

On receiving the cheque, Heather said: "This represents a pile of ‘poo’ as it almost exactly matches the amount paid to have fifty years of pigeon guano removed from the church tower and spire before essential repair work can be carried out. I bet the quiz night participants didn’t realise that’s where their donations would go!"

The Royal Oak Quiz Nights are an excellent way for locals to socialise and raise money for local good causes. The village is lucky to have people like Robin and Kevin who give up their time to help. When the next quiz night year starts on September 3 2025 at 8pm the local good cause voted for is Hastings and Rother Samaritans - an entirely self-funding charity.

The resources of the Pett Parochial Church Council are being very depleted by the church repairs, and every penny is gratefully received.

The church has been closed for three months now, so it is being reopened on Sunday, August 10 at 2.30pm to 3.30pm for everyone to see what their donations are being spent on. There will be refreshments.

It would be a tragedy if this lovely rural church could not be saved but the initial repairs have unearthed even more issues, costing even more money, so if you can "spare a dime", please contact Heather on pettchurchestreasurer@gmail.com.
