What is it like to be a Sea Cadet in Rye? Masses to do, weekends away sometimes as well. Right now they're recruiting. Form an orderly queue

It's fun - but serious, too

Rye Sea Cadets have held their first residential training weekend of 2014. Held at their Rock Channel headquarters a number of cadets from both the junior and senior sections were accommodated and fully catered for.

Activities that took place over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend included rowing, camp building and fieldcraft skills, team games, British Heart Foundation Heartstart and St John Ambulance Young First Aid Awards. The cadets also enjoyed a demonstration by Sussex Police. For me, this is what being in the cadet forces is all about: cadets learning new skills, gaining qualifications and, above all, having fun.

Rye Sea Cadets take part in a variety of activities, including Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, band, canoeing, mountain biking, rock climbing, navigation and chartwork, seamanship, marine engineering, first aid and the Business & Technology Education Council (BTEC) Level 2 diploma in public services.

Rye Sea Cadets are now recruiting for juniors (10–12 years old) on Fridays, 7pm-9pm, and seniors (12–18) on Mondays and Fridays, 7pm-9pm.
