The sun shone on Rye Harbour RNLI’s Open Day on Saturday, July 26 as locals and visitors alike turned out in force to show their support for the station. The event raised a fantastic £2,647.85 with the majority coming from the impressive raffle.

The boathouse was a hive of activity, with stalls, games, a bustling RNLI shop, and plenty of cake and filled rolls keeping the crowds happy.

This year’s event also saw visiting crews from RNLI Hastings (bringing their Shannon-class lifeboat) and the Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat, alongside the Coastal Rescue Team, giving visitors a chance to meet lifesaving volunteers from across the area.

A busy afternoon at RNLI Rye Harbour

“It was a brilliant day, busy, friendly and full of energy,” said Josephine Jennings, chair of fundraising. “We were especially blown away by the generosity of local businesses, who donated the most incredible raffle prizes this year. One lady even told us she came along just because her friend had called to tip her off about how good the raffle was!”

The team at Rye Harbour RNLI is already preparing for more fundraising events over the coming months. Look out for the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at the Waterworks Brewery, Peasmarsh on Sunday, August 31 and the fish and chip supper at the New Inn, Winchelsea on Saturday, September 16.
