The Rye Arts Festival may have finished, but the Rye Art Gallery's trio of exhibitions continues until October 25 (Mon-Sat 10:30am-5pm, Sun 12-4pm).
"Face the front" is an exhibition of cutting edge contemporary art by artists living locally who have a national following and is an exciting display of new leading lights and their compelling works in all mediums.
These include Daryl Balcomb (whose ink on paper "Stretched" is shown right) and Kate Crook's woodblock prints (shown above) which draw on Shunga Japanese erotic art - enough to merit a "Parent Advisory" notice by the exhibit.
Other artists include Matt Hardman, whose work seemed to be selling well as well as Robert Sample, Lucy Sedgewick, Rachel Glittenberg, and Alex Thornton.
Upstairs "Connected Threads" features the work of three talented local textile artists (Heather Collins, Josephine Ho and Madeleine Day) who display their varied skills and techniques, creating a whole range of exciting works in this innovative exhibition.
Last but not least on the top floor is a retrospective of Rye artist Margaret Barnard famed for her Art Deco lino prints. Also an accomplished painter, this exhibition brings together pieces from RAG's Permanent Collection and from private collections.
