Reimagined, Reinvented, and On Tour
This September, Barefoot Opera brings fresh fire to Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor with a bold new staging for a 14-night tour. True to Barefoot’s collaborative spirit, this production fuses emotional intensity with musical innovation, placing the raw power of live performance front and centre.
At the heart of the tour is our unique Barefoot Band, blending classical instrumentation with gypsy jazz textures. Several performers will blur the line between musician and singer, moving seamlessly between voice and instrument – a hallmark of Barefoot’s immersive, ensemble-driven approach.
Donizetti’s romantic tragedy, based on Sir Walter Scott’s The Bride of Lammermoor, remains one of opera’s most gripping tales of love, coercion, and collapse. Lucia’s story – torn between a forbidden love and a family’s ambition – resonates with chilling immediacy. And at the emotional apex: the iconic mad scene, where the soprano’s voice rises in an otherworldly descent into madness, remains one of the most astonishing moments in all opera.
This is not Lucia as museum piece. It’s Lucia as it lives and breathes in the now – psychologically acute, musically daring, and charged with contemporary urgency. Whether you’ve seen this opera many times or not at all, we invite you to experience it anew – the Barefoot way.
