Help was at hand

Emergency first aid
Lucy Green and Tia Bolton

Two family members from Rye Harbour were out for a pleasant evening stroll on the evening of Wednesday, August 24 when they came across a lady who had fallen and struck her head near to the discovery centre on the reserve. Her husband had called for an ambulance but had been told that there would be a long wait until they could attend.

A call went out to the lifeboat operations manager at the RNLI station who alerted two local crew members who had full casualty care training and they collected the first aid kit from the station and attended the to the casualty. HM Coastguard turned up and requested that the ambulance was put on priority. Tia Bolton and Lucy Green, both crew at the local RNLI station stayed with the casualty until they could hand her over to the crew from the ambulance.

The RNLI runs first aid training courses that have a worldwide reputation, and the girls were able to put this training into practice and give not only medical help but comfort and reassurance to the casualty whilst they were waiting for further assistance.
