Don't be a tosser!

The amount of rubbish left behind at Camber can't continue

Don't be a tosser!
Still to be collected, rubbish at Broomhill Sands

The beach and car parks at Camber were almost spotless in the morning on Monday, June 23, despite the thousands and thousands of visitors who came on the hottest weekend of the year. They left behind a lot of rubbish, but by 9am most had all been cleaned up. It was the same at Winchelsea Beach too, albeit a bit later in the day.

All thanks to the fantastic work from the council teams, their contractors Biffa, and volunteers who filled bags and bags of bottles, waste food, broken tents, destroyed toys - and far far worse too.

They really shouldn't have had to, should they?

The Camber residents' stories are, as usual after a hot weekend, horrific. Parking chaos and shouting matches, but the amount of rubbish left behind is just incomprehensible.

Full bin? Just leave your waste piled up wherever you fancy. Can't face taking your rubbish home? Not a problem, just throw it wherever you like and somebody will pick it up for you. Or just let it get washed out to sea.

It's not just rubbish, the shortage of public toilets is also an issue - you can work out the rest...

There's clearly a need for more bins (and public toilets) especially away from the car parks at Camber, but how do we stop people littering and (literally) dumping on the beaches?

Another anti-littering campaign? Do signs saying "Leave nothing but footprints" or "Take your litter home" work?

We can't just keep telling people leaving litter behind is anti-social, dangerous and environmentally damaging. Your suggestions, please.
