Dementia group launches in Rye

Rye and District Dementia Action Alliance are ready to launch at the end of May during national dementia awareness week. The group set up towards the end of last year is now signing up businesses and charities. Read Daliea Redman's report here

Since its inception last October the Rye and District Dementia Action Alliance has been extremely busy and has grown after starting out as just five interested people. Now, with the first nine businesses and registered charities signing up to the national dementia declaration, we will be ready to launch our dementia action alliance during National Dementia Awareness week this month, writes Chairperson Daliea Redman.

Two new dementia champions have been trained by the Alzheimer's society, ready to give their talks on "Dementia Friends", and the steering group now has a chair, co-chair, members' secretary and treasurer, and we are being helped by Rother Voluntary Action and East Sussex County Council engagement officer. Our email is rddaa@outlook.com.

Launch of the alliance will take place at St Mary's Centre in Rye on Tuesday May 19  from 1-4pm, with free tea and cakes and a 'Dementia Friends' talk at 2pm.  To celebrate the launch on the other side of town, we meet at Tilling Green Community Centre on Friday May 22  from 2-4pm with tea, cakes, raffle and  a singalong. Please join us for either or both.
