A group of 40 amateur sleuths travelled back in time to 1927 as they attended a murder mystery dinner, Murder at the Hope Anchor Hotel, last Friday, March 15.
The story originated from the vivid imagination of former Mayor, Jonathan Breeds. His kind permission to use and adapt the story led to a quite spectacular show and dinner which raised £1,360 for the Sara Lee Trust.
Vice-Chair, Pat Driver, who took huge liberties in adapting the story, said: "I’m very grateful to the professional and amateur actors who collaborated so generously to deliver great performances and to the guests who who boosted the total funds raised well beyond the £1,000 target.
"Prizes from the hotel, the Rye Retreat and anonymous donors all combined to the success of the evening. The money raised will go towards free provision of counselling and therapies for local people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, and their carers."
