Last weekend Rye’s final two pre-season games were washed away by yet another bout of inclement weather. A training session was held on The Salts, with bobble hats the order of the day.
This Saturday the league season gets underway, with Rye 1st XI hosting Cuckfield 2nd XI at The Rye Cricket Salts, 12:30pm start, sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera. Harry Smeed will be taking charge of his first League game as skipper, and overseas player, Cleon Reece will be making his debut for Rye in the League.
The 2nd XI travel to Lewes Priory 1st XI, led by skipper Ben Clifton, with a mixture of youth and experience. There will be a young pace bowling attack, with an experienced spin attack.
The 3rd XI sadly will be without a fixture as Bexhill 5th are unable to raise a team.
Next week the U15s host Boughton on Tuesday May 8 at 6pm and the U13s host Mersham B at 6pm on Thursday May 10.
Friday evening May 4, the Summer Colts Coaching programme gets underway with the primary aged children session at 6-7pm and the secondary aged session at 7-8pm. The programme runs until Friday July 20, supported by ECB coaches, Rye’s overseas player, and Rye’s All Stars trained youth volunteers.
