Cricket club secures overseas star
Hugo Nel

Rye Cricket Club has secured the services of South African batsman Hugo Nel for the 2016 season, following an impressive 2015 in Hampshire. Nel is a batting all-rounder who excelled for Hungerford in the Hampshire Cricket League.

He hit an incredible 1,062 runs over the season at an average of 70.80 alongside bowling 34 wickets at an average of 17.74.

In all forms of cricket he has struck an incredible 1,570 runs at an average of 68.26 with five centuries and 11 fifties. He took 58 wickets at an average of 24.10 including two five-wicket hauls. Nel also featured in the CricX league charts finishing fifth in the league batting aggregates.

Prior to this, in 2014, he enjoyed a successful summer hitting 742 runs for Clacton-on-Sea – topping the Two Counties Cricket League division four run charts. The club will be hoping that Nel can transfer last year's form to the Sussex Premier Cricket league as it looks for promotion in 2016.
