With two weeks to go until the coronation, events in Rye are coming together. Local businesses are announcing their plans, Rye’s shops have started rearranging their windows with royal displays, and from next week the coronation flag will be flown over the Landgate and the town hall.

On Saturday, May 6, Rye’s mayor Andi Rivett is attending the Westminster Abbey service in his role as Rye’s Cinque Ports baron. That means deputy mayor Andy Stuart will lead the proclamation of the coronation from the town hall steps at 4:30pm with the town crier and the Ryebellion Drummers.

On Sunday, May 7, the morning service at St Mary’s will reflect the coronation, and on Monday, May 8, there’s the Big Lunch at the Tilling Green Community Centre. It’s being organised by the Rye RVS Lunch Club starting at 12:30pm. To book at place at this bank holiday event call 01797 224174 or 01797 223863. Tickets cost £5.

What are you planning? Is there a street party where you live? Is your business doing something special. Let us know by emailing Rye News at info@ryenews.org.uk and don’t forget to send us photos of your event too.
