The conservation society chairman, David Bookless, has just confirmed that this year's nominations for the Rye Conservation Society awards, selected from a longer list and which gained most support, have been agreed by the conservation society committee. They were chosen as it was believed they all reflect well on the town and therefore deserved appropriate recognition.
The winning nominees are very different to each other and reflect the diversity of architecture in and around the town including commercial and residential buildings. They are presented here in no particular order.
The award for a good example of sensitive redecoration and use of colour goes to the newly refurbished signal box at Rye Station - pictured at the top of this article.
The Waterworks micropub was also recognised for the re-use of a historic building for a new purpose.
The Merchant and Mills shop in Cinque Ports Street won the award for the alteration and refurbishment of an existing building.
The award for external sympathetic restoration was given to 36 Ferry Road.
The repointing of the Whitehouse by Jim Tomlinson secured an award.
Award winners are invited to receive their awards at the Rye Conservation Society Christmas party in Rye Town Hall on Friday, December 6.
