Rye Conservation Society held its annual Christmas party in the council chamber at Rye Town Hall earlier in December.

Around 40 members of the society were joined in a convivial gathering by a roll-call of dignitaries as guests. Hastings and Rye MP Sally-Ann Hart took time out to attend and to donate a House of Commons cake to the raffle. Both Rye’s Rother councillors, Cheryl Creaser and Si McGurk joined in the festivities and Rye’s mayor Andi Rivett and mayoress councillor Rebekah Gilbert, were also able to find time in their busy schedules to drop in too.

Wine and mince pies were served and a raffle took place with a number of wonderful prizes generously donated by members of the society.

At the society’s monthly meeting after the gathering it was revealed that an unexpected surplus was generated from the event. Chairman David Bookless, said: “We unanimously decided that the surplus should be donated to Rye food bank, in order to help fellow Ryers at this time of the year."
