Casuals take on number one

Casuals not quite enough to beat top team

Casuals take on number one
Icklesham Casuals team earlier this season

The top two teams in Division Four clashed last Saturday, December 7, when second-placed Icklesham Casuals took on AFC Hollington - top of the table and yet to drop a point this season.

It was AFC Hollington who started well showing why they have won every game with wave after wave of attacks and getting their reward with a 2-0 half-time lead thanks to goals from Charlie Davies and Anton Neil. The Casuals were limited to a few long range efforts in the first period.

The second half was a much closer affair with both sides creating chances and it was Icklesham who reduced the deficit when Bradlee Mepham whipped in a brilliant and precise free-kick to find Phil Badrock unmarked in the box to head home.

This gave the Casuals the boost they needed and was followed by a rocket of a shot from Mepham which rattled the Hollington crossbar but in the end Icklesham could not find the equaliser and victory went to Hollington 2-1.

Sean Baker was the Helenswood Sports Centre Man of the Match.

This Saturday, December 14, Icklesham are at home to Magham Down with the match kicking-off at 2pm.
